At the end of this activity, students should be able to: – define carbohydrates, monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides and give examples of carbohydrates representing these classes – describe the occurrence and functions of the most important carbohydrates – describe the characteristic properties of monosaccharides, disaccharides, storage polysaccharides and structural polysaccharides – explain the reactions of hydrolysis and condensation of carbohydrates and their importance.
