3. How much can we make and how much do we need to use?
The relative formula mass of a substance, in grams, is known as one mole of that substance.
4. How can we control the rates of chemical reactions?
Concentrations of solutions are given in moles per cubic decimetre (mol/dm3 ). Equal volumes of solutions of the same molar concentration contain the same number of moles of solute, ie the same number of particles.
Equal volumes of gases at the same temperature and pressure contain the same number of molecules. (Candidates will not be expected to find concentrations of solutions or volumes of ases in this Unit.)
